Laboratory Fermentation and Process Engineer

Join a team that is developing and improving fermentation methods, for the production of enzymes using engineered strains and developing new enzyme products. The lab setting utilizes 30-liter computer controlled bioreactors and associated equipment.
Responsibilities include analysis by a variety of microbial and biochemical techniques, data analysis, biochemical methods development, programming, production of pilot batches of materials, engineering calculations, and other duties related to scale-up and production at other locations.
The position will also require developing the skill set to operate and program ChemGen's robotic equipment for biochemical assays.
Shift work will be required for this entry-level position, as well as potential occasional travel to our production-scale fermentation facilities. Generally four 10-hour shifts per week, from noon to 10:00 p.m. are required. The position requires a BSE degree, and strong interests in microbial fermentation and biochemistry. |
Prior industry experience is desirable but not necessarily required for a talented individual with motivation to learn and perform quality results. Independent thinking and problem solving abilities are important along with a mechanical skill set. A degree in ChemE is desirable.

Laboratory Aide

Immediate Opening for a candidate to support the R&D department in Gaithersburg, MD.
Responsibilities include sample preparation for enzyme assays of animal feeds, assuring availability of basic research supplies, and routine equipment maintenance.
Duties include cleaning & sterilizing glassware, cleaning lab equipment, operating & testing autoclaves, steam oversight, processing-weighing-extracting assay samples, maintaining inventories and records, disposition of stored product, sterilization of product prior to abandonment, supplying compositions to lab personnel, etc.

This is an entry-level laboratory position. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; mechanical ability and good problem solving skills; interest in technology and learning new skills; and strong aptitude for service work. The person must be very well organized and detail oriented; literate with Windows operating system computers and Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel programs. Ability for some heavy lifting work might be required. Previous experience in a laboratory setting is a plus. Recent graduate applicants: please include your transcripts with your application.
