Hemicell® is a proprietary and unique β-mannanase enzyme-based feed additive especially useful in turkey feeds. Turkey diets are often formulated with substantial levels of soybean meal; this contains β-mannan, the strongly anti-nutritive fiber which inhibits live performance in turkeys. When Hemicell® is added to the feed, this fiber is degraded and becomes inactive. Recent matrix values for Hemicell® in turkey feed have led to very significant feed cost savings. Producers seeking to also use wheat flour in the turkey feed will see reduced feed costs as well as live performance advantages by using Hemicell®-W, which is a new ChemGen enzyme that contains xylanase as well as β-mannanase.

Mechanism of Action
Hemicell®, Hemicell®-HT, and Hemicell®-W Feed Enzyme products provide a source of β-mannanase enzyme (and xylanase enzyme in the case of Hemicell®-W), which degrades the β-mannan fiber found primarily in soybean meal. By removing this fiber, the turkey producer sees three commercial benefits: (i) more efficient utilization of feed ingredients, (ii) an improvement in the uniformity of turkey body weights, and (iii) a reduction in mortality rates. The magnitude of these three improvements is enhanced when the turkeys are presented with a disease challenge.
