Energy Effects

Hemicell® improves energy utilization in nursery and grow-finish diets. This can be demonstrated by comparing the performance of hogs provided with low energy diets supplemented with Hemicell® to unsupplemented higher energy diets. Results of three large pen trials are given in Table 1. In Experiment 1, pigs were offered diets varying in ME by 45 Kcal/lb. With the low energy diet, Hemicell® improved ADG and FCR to that of the higher energy diet without Hemicell® or better. Similar effects were found with grow-finishing hogs with energy differences of 53 Kcal/lb in Experiment 2. In Experiment 3, Hemicell® improved FCR and lean meat yield to a point greater than or equal to at treatment with 49 Kcal/lb higher in DE. Hemicell® can be expected to improve energy utilization in complete diets by approximately 50 Kcal/lb ME or DE.
